Deacon/Diacono Jose Cuenca, born in Mexico City on August 6, 1971. His Father, Juan Cuenca, worked in the field and eventually as a laborer in Mexico City. His Mother, Josefa Cuenca, was a stay home mother and raised 9 children. Our Family moved to the USA in the late 70s, and made Chicago our new home. There I met my wife, Emma Cuenca, and married on September 28, 1996. We are raising four children (all boys) who were born in Chicago.
In 2002, I entered the University of St. Mary of the Lake, in Illinois and completed a two-year Lay Ministry Formation and Pastoral Care. This is when I first received the call to the diaconate.
In 2007 my immediate family and I relocated to Virginia and fell in love with the scenery and the climate. In 2011, I received an Associate Degree in Business Management from Piedmont Virginia Community College. In 2016 I started discerning for the diaconate, and a year later I entered formation. On August 3, 2021 I received an Undergraduate Certificate from Saint Leo University, and on September 25, 2021 I was ordained a deacon at The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond.
I enjoy walking and watching the sun set and sun down. I love serving God and neighbor, and I am fully bilingual.
