Deacon Jay was born and raised in southern Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. He left Maryland in 1974 to enter the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT, and never went back. Over the course of a twenty-year Coast Guard career driving ships and money, he and Marybeth, his wife of 46 years (and counting), experienced life across the U.S., from Cape Cod to San Francisco, Sault Ste. Marie, MI to the Gulf Coast, raising three daughters in the process. After retirement from the Coast Guard, Deacon Jay embarked upon a second career in shipbuilding program management with Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding, which ultimately took them to Mobile, AL, before retiring from secular employment in July 2022.
Deacon Jay was ordained to the permanent diaconate in the Archdiocese of Mobile, AL in June of 2018. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Coast Guard Academy and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. After enjoying retirement on the Gulf Coast for a year, Deacon Jay and Marybeth relocated to Ruckersville in the spring of 2024 to be closer to their four granddaughters (and their parents) who live in Manassas and Richmond.
As part of the Incarnation parish family, Deacon Jay will be supporting and facilitating Justice Ministry, Adult Faith Formation and Religious Education programs, as well as supporting liturgy scheduling and general pastoral ministry.
